[glow=yellow,48,400]Jade's Writing Contest[/glow]
The object of this competition is to see who can write the best scene in under five pages in length. The goal is to inflict plenty of emotion into the reader; you want to give the judges a scene they hopefully won’t soon forget. Each round will last only three days, so that doesn’t give you much time to think of a good plot, throw in characters, a setting, and a time period, actually write it, edit it, and turn it in. Lucky for you, there will be a theme each round that you will have to write by. The round can be of any genre—Romance, horror, comedy, historic fiction… This competition is designed to test the flexibility of your writing abilities in a limited amount of time. Do you think you have what it takes to conquer random writing?
Here's how it goes down
There will be a certain number of rounds (depending on how many people are in the contest), each lasting three days. One person will be eliminated each round. There is a list below that we will be judging you on to give you a heads up of what we will be expecting in each submission. Points will be put on and taken off; the writing with the highest number of points will win.
The winner of this competition will receive a badge, and all Westbrook and Coven Cove Staff (Mr. Roswell, Ms. Gallagher, Gabriel Montoya, Miss Evans, Gossip Girl) will quote a line from your writing, and have a link to your writing(which will have it's own thread, including a few graphics) in their signature.
Submission Rules and Requirements
* Detail is a must.
* Good grammar is a must. If there is more than two typos in your writing, five points will be deducted due to lack of proper editing.
* You must write in third person (limited or omniscient) unless stated otherwise in the round's theme.
* Your submission must be at least one page in length, but no longer than five pages.
* You MAY NOT copy the ideas of others. If I see too much of a similarity in two writings, you will be questioned and, if found guilty, disqualified.
* Since there won’t be a whole lot of character development in only 1-5 pages, try to give them good depth and unique personalities.
* You must submit your entry in the contest thread.

How we will be judging
Grammar: 1-5
Setting: 1-5
Detail: 1-10
Plot: 1-10
Characters: 1-10
A grand total of: 40
Grammar:
This is self explanatory. Use capitalization, punctuation, ect., and don’t make spelling errors. More than two errors and points will be deducted.
Setting:
This includes location, time period, time of day, ect. These three are important and should be made clear in the story.
Detail:
I want LOTS of descriptions, people! I want to know what colors are in the sunset, I want to know what the waves crashing on the shore look like, I want to know what the filthy hot dog stand smells like! Detail is vital.
Plot/scene:
This will be based on the theme. You are able to choose any plot (unless the theme of the round states otherwise), so I want creativity.
Characters:
Because there won’t be much character development, I want character depth, and I don’t want contradictions. By no contradictions I mean that I don’t want a shy but flirty girl, or an outgoing but sensitive boy. Chances are if a girl is flirty, she’s not shy. Keep it real, folks, or points will be deducted.
